On 17 September at 19:00, Vilnius University’s improvisation studio IMPROVU invites audiences to the VU Theatre Hall for “Improv Start 2026”, an event marking the opening of its new season. The free event, held in English, offers an opportunity to discover improvisational theatre, see it in action and learn more about joining ImproVU.

What happens when actors step onto the stage without a script? In improv, scenes, characters and stories are created in the moment – by listening, reacting, trusting one another and often drawing on suggestions from the audience. “Improv Start” will feature improvisation games, unexpected situations and moments that simply cannot be planned in advance.

The evening will be hosted by Vytautas Kontrimas, artistic director of IMPROVU, actor, educator and applied improvisation practitioner.

Improvisation is more than a form of theatre. It develops listening and communication skills, quick thinking, creativity, self-confidence and the ability to stay calm when things do not go according to plan.

IMPROVU is looking for new members

Founded in 2021, VU’s improvisation studio ImproVU brings together students who want to explore improvisational theatre, build confidence on stage and learn to create together. Studio members develop performances and take part in various University events.

Students interested in giving improv a try are invited to join ImproVU meetings on Thursdays at 19:00 at “Morgas”, the VU Small Aula café.
