The drama-based science popularization project - "Alice in the Wonderland of Science" organized by the Culture Center of Vilnius University participated in the Falling Walls Engage contest and has been chosen as a Finalist in the Science Engagement category.

The project is now one step closer to the Science Breakthrough of the Year award which will be celebrated at the Falling Walls Conference from 7-9 Nov. in Berlin.

The Culture Centre of Vilnius University was looking for fun and engaging ways to speak with children about science in general. Our main goal is to show how many scientific secrets lies in every detail of our day-to-day lives and to awake pupil’s curiosity to explore it. As a tool we use theatre and the world’s famous fantasy book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In this masterpiece which was written by English mathematician and inventor Lewis Carrol are hidden many clues to solve physics, math’s even philosophy tasks. We decided to create performance and call it Alice in the Wonderland of Science, which aims to arouse interest and motivation of school children in science studies. By using drama-based learning, including live demonstrations and experiments we also open the discussions about its principals of operation with the audience.

The project brings together university scientists, school teachers and students from different fields of science studies and theatre artists creative dialogue and collaboration, which will result as a non-traditional way of school children engagement in science through art.

The ongoing project is partially funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania.
